Individual display of the catalog
In addition to the general display of the individual catalog pages with the labels, from Edition 06A onwards there is also a possibility to include the results of the collection activities in the display. For this purpose, the user's own collection must be viewed and the number of labels in the collection must be recorded for each label in the catalog. The existing HTML pages are modified by a program run in such a way that the standard character with the white cross on a red background is replaced by a number symbol under/next to each label. In this way, the user is immediately informed on the screen whether the respective label (how often) is available in his own collection. To use this option, some installation steps are required. Proceed as follows:
1. Create a bel. directory on a hard disk of your PC with at least 5 Gbyte free capacity - e.g. \HOBBY\CATALOG. Please choose for the directory levels max. 8-digit names without special characters so that the programs work correctly. Then copy the complete content of the DVD into this directory.
2. Check that the files in the directory \HOBBY\CATALOG_DATA are not write-protected, which is set by default on some systems after copying from a CD/DVD. If this is the case, remove the write protection.
3. There is a setup.exe file in the INSTALL subdirectory This program installs beside the actual maintenance program bek_pse.exe also a runtime environment for the access to SQLite databases. Please confirm the execution of the program and the changes on the system. Unfortunately, the directory in which the program parts are installed cannot be chosen freely (only possible with an expensive version). Since the maintenance program is started immediately afterwards, the error occurs that the configuration file cannot be found. The path indicated in the error message is the automatically created installation directory. I recommend not to use this directory, but to proceed as follows: There is a PROG directory on the DVD which contains the installed program. The maintenance program BEK_PSE.exe can be started directly from this directory or the complete directory can be copied to another place in the system (e.g. to a subdirectory of C:\PROGRAMS) and called from there. The installation is required only once, further program versions can be called directly from the PROG directory.
Before the first call of the maintenance program, the file "BEK_PSE_conf.txt" contained in the PROG directory must be edited and the specifications must be adapted to the self-chosen directory names. It must always be located in the directory from which the program is called. Where :
dsn_db_aj Name of the database current year
dsn_db_vj Name of database previous year
dsn_prot Path and name of the log file
dsn_samtmp Path and name of the temporary cache file, it must be located in a writable directory.
dir_katalog Path and name of the main directory of the catalog
ber_von, ber_bis Status of the catalog on which the collection results were previously maintained and current status
4. Once these preparatory tasks are completed, the maintenance program can be started. It is divided into 4 sections (Program, Maintenance, Modification and Help), which in turn have submenus. It thus covers all necessary work processes that lead to an individually designed catalog. The following functions can be selected:
Programm - > Einstellungen |
The transferred parameters from the BEK_PSE_conf.txt file are displayed. |
Programm - > Statistik |
Some information about the current status of the catalog is displayed. |
Programm - > BE-Katalog starten |
The display of the catalog is started. |
Programm - > beenden |
Open files are closed and the maintenance program is terminated properly. |
Pflege - > Übernahme Vorjahr |
The maintained collection results of the previous year are transferred to the current year, taking into account deletions and renaming in the period. |
Pflege - > fiktive Etiketten |
In the course of a year, labels will also be added to the catalog by collector friends who maintain the collection results with this program. To enable them to make the entries even before they have a new version on DVD, they can create fictitious labels with the name from the Internet, which are then correctly maintained after the update. |
Pflege - > Pflege Sammeltab V1 |
Three program variants are available for maintaining the collection results, all of which store the number of labels and, if necessary, a comment for each label. They differ only in approach and available technology (screen size). This is variant 1. |
Pflege - > Pflege Sammeltab V2 |
Three program variants are available for maintaining the collection results, all of which store the number of labels and, if necessary, a comment for each label. They differ only in approach and available technology (screen size). This is variant 2. |
Pflege - > Pflege Sammeltab V3 |
Three program variants are available for maintaining the collection results, all of which store the number of labels and, if necessary, a comment for each label. They differ only in approach and available technology (screen size). This is variant 3. |
Modifikation - > alle HTML-Seiten PC |
After updating the collection results in the database, all HTML pages with display options for number and individual comment are modified in the HTML_BR directory. The runtime is about 15 minutes. |
Modifikation - > alle HTML-Seiten Tablet |
After updating the collection results in the database, all HTML pages with display options for number and individual comment are modified in the HTML_TB directory. The runtime is about 15 minutes. |
Modifikation - > geänderte Seiten PC |
After updating individual collection results, only the changed HTML pages in the HTML_BR directory can be modified. Runtime c. 3 min. |
Modifikation - > geänderte Seiten Tablet |
After updating individual collection results, only the changed HTML pages in the HTML_TB directory can be modified. Runtime c. 3 min. |
Modifikation - > Differenzverzeichnisse |
If changes are made to collection results or a new catalog version is available, the creation of difference directories LABELC and HTML_TBC is possible. The contents of these directories (not the directories themselves) are to be copied into the LABEL and HTML_TB directories with Replace and the corrected catalog is to be tested (have all changes been received?) If the catalog is again in a correct state and a copy / data backup has possibly been created, the LABELC and HTML_TBC directories can be deleted with empty contents. |
Hilfe - > Dokumentation |
This documentation is displayed. |
5. If the complete maintenance is done and a DVD burner is available, the complete directory can be burned to DVD again.
The presented program solution may seem a bit complicated at first, but it is due to the fact that the catalog was intentionally designed to be simple. With the display of far more than 30,000 images, Java solutions with a stored database would lead to additional system load on the one hand and complicated structure for the run ability under different systems on the other hand. The desired solution for a display on tablets or even smartphones would then no longer be possible.
If there are any questions about the procedure, a phone call would certainly be useful.
